Sonali Bendre’s Broken News season 2 was released on May 3.

When the viral claim that Shoaib Shoaib Akhtar said he would ‘kidnap’ her was brought up, Sonali replied, “I don’t know if he said it.”

Sonali Bendre, known for her roles in mostly Bollywood films, is currently in the news for appearing in the web series Broken News season 2. There have been ongoing claims on the internet that former Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Akhtar once threatened to ‘kidnap’ Sonali Bendre if she turned down his marriage proposal. Sonali recently commented on this viral statement, expressing scepticism about its truthfulness, hinting that it could be fake news.

In a recent podcast chat with Shubhankar Mishra, the actress, who’s currently promoting her latest show, The Broken News season 2, was questioned about Shoaib’s statement. Shubhankar also brought up the cricketer’s past confession of having a huge crush on her.

The actress was surprised when she heard the remark and said, “Ya, I don’t know how true this is though. Fake news existed even then!” Sonali remarked.

When the host brought up the viral claim that Shoaib said he would ‘kidnap’ her, Sonali replied, “I don’t know if he said it.” At that point, she found out that the cricketer was a fan of hers. She felt happy to hear this and said, “Thank God for that, my career is because of that (audience loving me)!”

For years, there have been claims that the former Pakistani cricketer once admitted in an interview that he had a huge crush on Sonali. It was reported that he wanted to marry her and would go to great lengths to get her to accept his proposal.

In 2019, Shoaib clarified that he never made any comments regarding Sonali. He posted a video on his YouTube channel to put an end to the rumours once and for all.

“I’ve never met Sonali Bendre! I was never really a fan of hers either! I’ve seen her in movies, and she’s beautiful, but I never considered myself a fan. However, when she bravely fought cancer, that’s when I started admiring her as a person. But honestly, I never had any involvement with her,” he stated in a video.

Sonali started her acting career with the movie Aag in 1994. Since then, she has appeared in films like Diljale (1996), Major Saab (1998), Sarfarosh (1999), Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999), and Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai (2000), among others. Her most recent role was in the second season of the newsroom drama, The Broken News, which came out on May 3.
