The Russo brothers — Joseph and Anthony ended their collaboration with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after the 2019 film Avengers: Endgame. But they are still professionally connected to the MCU stars. One of the most successful ventures of the filmmaker duo is the Extraction film franchise, featuring Thor actor Chris Hemsworth. The first movie released on Netflix in 2020 was a hit, paving the way for its sequel in 2023. With such a global appeal of the Russo brothers’ production, Extraction 3 was inevitable. Recently, in a magazine interview, Joseph aka Joe Russo revealed that the threequel of the action-thriller was in the making, presently in the “developing” stage.

“Yeah, we’re developing it at the moment, figuring out Chris’s (Hemsworth) schedule. Sam Hargrave is back directing. It’s an interesting franchise because he’s a very emotionally wounded character, so there’s good storytelling there, I think, in respect to his backstory, and, you know, his relationship to violence is one that’s built around self-loathing and guilt. And so, it adds a lot of texture, I think, which allows us to tell more stories about him,” confirmed Joe Russo in an interaction with British magazine Total Film.

Besides producing the first and second installments of the action-entertainer, Joseph and Anthony Russo even penned the screenplay for both. According to a report by Comic Book, Chris Hemsworth previously confirmed Extraction 3 at the Tudum 2023 Global Fan Event in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He was accompanied by the director Sam Hargrave.

Addressing the crowd at the event, Chris Hemsworth expressed his gratitude to fans for showering an abundance of love on Extraction and Extraction 2, reports Comic Book. Teasing about the third segment, the actor said, “Anyone interested in seeing more of Tyler Rake in the future? Well, guess what? Because between us, between us friends, we’re already talking about Extraction 3 thanks to the response.”

Extraction revolved around the story of Tyler Rake aka Chris Hemsworth — a daunting black market mercenary. When the son of an imprisoned international crime boss is kidnapped, he is assigned the mission of rescuing the kid. Thus begins the most deadly extraction of his career. Extraction also starred Bollywood actors Randeep Hooda and Pankaj Tripathi.
