Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, two of Hollywood’s most recognised stars, live a life that’s quite different from what their children perceive. Despite being revered by audiences worldwide, their daughters, 9-year-old Esmeralda Amada and 8-year-old Amada Lee, seem unfazed by their parents’ stardom. In an interview with PEOPLE, Gosling shared that their kids “don’t care” about their fame; to them, Gosling and Mendes are simply mom and dad, not the celebrated actors they are known to the world. To exemplify the situation at home, Gosling also recounted an incident involving Mendes’ appearance on an episode of the popular children’s show Bluey.

Both parents anticipated a huge reaction from their daughters, who are fans of the show, but to their surprise, the girls showed no interest. “We both thought it was going to be huge but they didn’t like it,” he told People. “They were like, ‘Fast-forward through that part!’”

Reflecting on this, Gosling talked about the disconnect between their public personas and their private lives as parents, explaining that their children’s perception of them is grounded in their roles as mom and dad rather than movie stars.

The couple’s commitment to prioritising their family over work is also evident in their choices. Gosling’s recent film, The Fall Guy, directed by David Leitch, required him to perform some daring stunts. However, his daughters, concerned for his safety, were not in favour of the idea. “My kids didn’t want me to be set on fire. They were like, No. No fire. So I didn’t do it,” the actor added.

Sharing the same sentiments, in 2022, Mendes talked about her years-long break from acting. She explained that before having kids, she was up for anything on screen. However, after having children, she has been refraining from portraying violence or sexuality on screen, reports People.

Similarly, actress Emily Blunt, who stars alongside Gosling in The Fall Guy, shared similar sentiments about her daughters, 9-year-old Hazel and 7-year-old Violet. Despite her successful acting career, her daughters are not keen on watching her on screen. Blunt explained that her children find it strange to see her play characters other than their mom, and they are often uncomfortable watching scenes where she is in danger or distress.

“Don’t want you to be anything other than their parent,” said Blunt. “They’ve only seen Jungle Cruise once because they don’t love watching me on screen which I understand because I’m their mommy and it’s very strange to see me play someone else,” she explained to People.

“Not only is it strange, adds Blunt, “it can also be distressing. They didn’t like the underwater stuff where I’m trapped and I’m in peril,” says the Oppenheimer Oscar nominee.
